HOW TWITTER WORKS
Twitter is an online social networking service that lets you send 140- character messages called “tweets” and many other things. Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass. As of May 2015 twitter has more than 500 million accounts.
Wikipedia results show that 3.6% of tweets are in relation with news. 3.8% is spam, 5.9% is self-promotion, 40.1% is “pointless babble”, 37.6% is conversation, and 8.7% is pass-along value
A lot of people don’t know what it means when there’s a check sign next to someone’s name. It means verified which is given to notable people in politics, music, business, fashion, government, sports, media, and journalism.
For example, the accounts with the most followers: Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Barack Obama, Taylor Swift, Youtube, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Ellen Degeneres, and Britney Spears, which are all verified accounts.
So there are about 15-16 people in this class with twitter accounts, but not everyone knows the details and cheats; which is what I am going to show today
Then you can choose a profile picture, header, profile name, location, website, and bio
Your profile picture shows who you are. Header is like a background for your account. Profile name is the name that is displayed. Location is where you could be. Website is anything that can be accessed by a URL. And a bio is anything you like, like explaining yourself
2. FOLLOWERS AND FOLLOWING
On your account and other accounts you can see the amount of followers and followings. Your followers can automatically follow you if your account is on public, but if its on private, you have to give them permission. By clicking the numbers of followers and following on public accounts, you can see a persons follows and following. To see an accounts on private, you have to be permitted access.
3. USAGE
On a mobile IPhone, there are 7 basic pages. They are home, notifications, messages, profile, suggested following, search and tweet. The suggested following suggests people for you to follow. The home page is called a timeline, it shows ads, tweets, and retweets from the people you follow. In the notifications, you will see when someone mentions you, favorites, retweets, or favorites a tweet you were mentioned in. The messages are called DMS. In dms, you can make group dms or individual dms. Depending on a persons setting, if the following is not mutual, you may not be able to dm them. If their dms are public then it will send even if they don’t follow you back. In group dms, you are able to turn off the notifications. You use the search bar to find people, or tweets. When you type in a letter, it shows 3 top searches that start with that letter. If you want to find a certain tweet, you type in the user, and a key word and press search. It will then show all the top tweets and all tweets. Now most important, the tweets. You have 140 characters in a tweet. Pictures and bvideos also count as characters. In a tweet set up, you can have your location, pictures or videos, or drafts. Drafts are tweets that you’ve saved and not tweeted. THERE YOU HAVE A TWEET.Another big part of twitter is favoriting and retweeting. The option of retweeting comes with actually retweeting or quote tweeting. From quote tweeting you can add a comment that isn’t considered responding.
4. SAFETY AND PRIVACY
You have the choice to make your account public or private
Never tweet you personal information; especially if your account is on public
